Managing Conflict Between Staff and With Parents

  • For senior leaders and those responsible for HR: An exciting two-part course (over one day) covering conflict resolution skills for senior leaders required to manage internal conflict between staff members and strategies to manage ‘eternal conflict’ with parents, guardians or carers.
  • Hostile working relationships between individuals often create negative working environments and are a considerable source of strain for senior leaders. With the right skills these conflicts can be managed, calmly and efficiently at an early stage and the morning session will focus on this. The afternoon session will look at the practical reality of managing challenging parents, guardians or carers and how leaders can de-escalate conflict and set boundaries from low level to more extreme examples.
  • Delegates can expect to learn the practical skills of facilitating conversations between staff members who aren’t getting on, when it is appropriate to do so, how and how to reach and document an agreement. In the afternoon delegates will learn practical conflict resolution and negotiation skills that are precisely tailored to the types of problem leaders in education frequently experience.

Date:   Wednesday 3rd December – 9:00 to 4:00

Venue:   Fairlawns  Cost:  £240 +VAT

The training is delivered by Richard Burnell, a conflict   resolution specialist with extensive experience of working   in the public and private sector. Richard is a published   author and ACAS accredited mediator and works as a   visiting lecturer at local universities. In addition to his   experience delivering training in education settings, he is   a former police officer and has also worked as a conflict   management specialist for 16 years in the NHS, helping staff manage the demands and behaviours of the general public whilst still ensuring front line service is delivered. This training is interactive (but no formal role play!), enjoyable and aimed at equipping learners with practical and useable strategies that can be implemented the moment the course is completed.
