With the additional cost of employing school business managers increasing at inflation bursting levels for the past 2 years, the cost of employing one has not only become unsustainable but out of reach for many schools. With the new minimum hours of Continuing Professional Development required from National Association of Schools Business Managers (soon to be The Institute of School Business Leadership) there will be further additional demands and costs associated with the role. At drb Schools and Academies Services Ltd we have qualified SBMs who regularly work with all types of schools, academies and trusts.
Over the past 3 years, drb has supported many academies and MATs in growing their capacity through providing interim CFO support.
We have delivered significant cost savings through not only carrying out the SBM role directly but through the procurement exercises we have carried out in schools. An example of this is at Stanton Bridge Academy where we retendered both the photocopying and catering contracts bringing in a total saving over 5 years of £60,000. For a group of 10 schools we combined their buying power to save them each £2,000 in one year on their combined energy contracts.
